ELLSWORTH, ME - Maine Coast Memorial Hospital’s 20th Poinsettia Ball opened with a champagne toast offered by Committee Member Katherine Heidinger while fireworks played on the large screen in the background. This annual charity event was enjoyed by 475 guests on December 3 at the Ellsworth Ramada.
This year’s record net proceeds of more than $66,000 will benefit the new Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care construction project. Over the past twenty years, Poinsettia Ball income of over half a million dollars has supported programs and medical equipment at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.
This year’s Ball was hosted by Joy Hollowell of WABI TV5 and Adin Tooker, Vice-Chair of Board of Trustees of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. The entire Mary Dow Staff was on hand to express their gratitude and provide coat check services for all the guests. Hospital CEO Charlie Therrien expressed thanks to all who supported this cause. “MCMH is grateful for the generous donations and volunteer support that is provided to make this 20th anniversary of the Ball a great success.” Special appreciation was extended to major sponsors. This tremendous annual event received widespread community support including Ray Builders and EBS Ellsworth Building Supplies partnering to provide an outside kitchen for Chipper’s catering to prepare the delicious holiday meal.
The Tony Boffa Band, sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Bradley Goldstein, Dr. Charles Hendricks and Dr. Michael Mason, electrified the crowd as they danced around the poinsettia tree comprised of 600 poinsettia plants sponsored by Albert and Barbara Harmon and Witham Family Properties. Cocktail hour music and a delectable chocolate fountain were presented by Dr. Peter Cummings of Hancock Dental.
A $1,000 shopping spree compliments of Beals Jewelry, The Grasshopper Shop, Rooster Brother and Simone’s Restaurant was won by Maria Seavey. Coastline Homes was high bidder on the Holiday Celebration Basket donated by the Poinsettia Ball Committee, Alchemist, Cleonice Bistro, CoreElation Pilates and Specialty Sweets.
The new Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care is currently under construction at the Hospital campus and will open within a year. Since the Center opened fifteen years ago, thousands of patients have benefitted from the nearby accessibility of cancer treatments and other specialized infusion therapies.
