PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island Hospital Foundation raised nearly $300,000 at its signature fundraising event, the 3rd annual President’s Pursuit of Excellence Dinner with 550 guests in attendance. All proceeds will be used to support the Operational Excellence program, which was developed to rapidly advance Rhode Island Hospital’s three priorities of improving patient safety and quality, enhancing the patient experience, and engaging staff and physician partners.

Babineau, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital. Hasbro Inc.'s continued commitment to its namesake hospital, Hasbro Children's Hospital, has made many services and programs available to patients and their families, including LifePACT, the state's first pediatric critical care transport ambulance; the pediatric diagnostic imaging center; and a Child Life specialist program, among many others.

“Rhode Island Hospital has made a commitment to improving patient care and the patient experience,” said Timothy J. Babineau, M.D., president and chief executive officer of Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital. “To support this commitment, we have been working very hard to improve communication and to educate our staff on best practices; this includes an Operational Excellence program that uses the Lean and Six-Sigma tools used by many large organizations to ‘work smarter, not harder.’ We want our patients and their families to feel safe, supported and cared for, and Operational Excellence is just one tool we are using to help reach this goal.”

Babineau continued, “This is the third year we have held this event, and each year I am humbled by the support we receive, and by the selfless acts of our individual, corporate and community champions. Their vision and support make it possible for us to provide the high-quality care that Rhode Islanders receive each day.”

The event recognized three champions for their commitment and dedication to Rhode Island Hospital. Russell and Marjorie Boss were named Individual Champions; Hasbro, Inc. was named Corporate Champion; and The Rhode Island Foundation was named Community Champion.

For more than 25 years, Russell and Marjorie Boss of Narragansett have been supporters and special friends of Rhode Island Hospital. Over the years, nearly every area of the hospital has been touched in some way by their generosity. They have supported neurology, oncology, the cancer center, the emergency department, breast imaging and pediatric imaging, among others. The Healing Garden, adjacent to the cancer center’s entrance, was made possible through their generosity to provide patients and families with a place to relax. Russell Boss also contributed years of service and leadership as a member of the Rhode Island Hospital board, the Rhode Island Hospital Foundation board, and as chairman of the Legacy Campaign where his deep commitment and dedication to the hospital inspired countless others to become supporters.
