Fraternal Order of Eagle's #1413 Ladies Auxiliary Members Barbara Livengood, Delores Blanchard, and Kym Burnham present a check for $500 to Donna Dubuc, Director of Development, Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene.

Keene, NH – The Fraternal Order of Eagles #1413 Ladies Auxiliary gave Cheshire Health Foundation a grant of $500 to support the treatment of spinal conditions using nonsurgical treatment methods such as physical therapy and patient education.

The gift of $500 will benefit the Hoffman Spine Fund at Cheshire Health Foundation, a resource established in 2007 by Jean and John Hoffman., to support Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene’s outpatient rehabilitation center.

The Hoffman Spine Fund expands Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s ability to treat spinal problems. It invests in advanced training for staff and specialized equipment for spinal manipulation. The Fund also allows the department to offer an exercise group following discharge from physical therapy that helps people make a smoother transition into independent exercise by providing them supervised access to the hospital’s gym facility one hour/week.

In addition to services, there is a space exclusively designed for patients to learn more about their condition and recovery called “The Jean and John Hoffman Learning Center”. The center includes computers with access to the Internet. Staff works one-on-one with patients to develop exercise plans, which can be followed at home.

HELPING NEWBORN HEARTS BEAT

Keene, NH – Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene is celebrating the second annual Women’s Invitational Golf Tournament at the Keene Country Club, August 28.  The Sweet Heart golf tournament is a fundraiser in support of neonatal resuscitation training and equipment offered for physicians, midwives, and nurses at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene.

Teams will consist of two women with a maximum handicap of 40.4. Registration fees are $75 per person or doubled per team. The tournament is limited to the first 100 golfers. Participators may sponsor a hole in honor or in memory of a special baby in theirs lives by providing a photo to be featured on their sponsored hole. Lunch will be served after the tournament in the Timberview Lounge followed by an awards ceremony for top team winner.

The Sweet Heart Tournament will help fund critical training and tools needed that can help save a newborn’s life. Proceeds from the tournament will offset the cost of neonatal resuscitation training programs for nurses, midwives, and physicians. Without immediate attention during childbirth, on some occasions, a baby’s heart may slow or stop. To be prepared for this rare emergency, medical staff must receive ongoing training in the skills needed to revive a baby’s heart.

Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene provides obstetric services to families in Cheshire County and now offers an innovative approach to childbirth preparation, called Centering Pregnancy, which is a parent-focused prenatal care and education program. Group visits are led by a women’s health professional. The program is designed to encourage women to take control of their pregnancies, their bodies, and their families. The group consists of expectant mothers who are due around the same time and can share their experiences and discuss topics ranging from diet to physical changes. The program offers women the choice to plan ahead when the baby’s arrival can be unpredictable.

The Sixth Annual Bay State Audio & Media Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 11 at the Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, MA. Over the past five years this event has raised over $63,000 for the Anderson Pharmacy Fund, benefitting the oncology patients at LRGHealthcare. Seen in photo - Anderson Family and Friends.

Laconia, NH. – The Bay State Audio & Media Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 11 at the Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, MA.  Over the past five years this event has raised over $63,000 for the Anderson Pharmacy Fund, benefitting oncology patients at LRGHealthcare in Laconia, NH.

The Anderson Pharmacy Fund was established by Jerry & Lynn Anderson in 2000, when Lynn was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer at Lakes Region General Hospital. During her treatment Lynn overheard another patient mention that he could not afford the $45 for a necessary medication.  Lynn and Jerry then decided that they would like to do something to help ensure oncology patients in the Lakes Region would not need to worry about how they would pay for the care that they needed.  The fund was established shortly thereafter.

The Anderson’s daughters and sons-in-law held the first Bay State Audio & Media Golf Tournament in 2005 to honor Jerry Anderson after he was diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, Jerry lost his brave struggle with cancer, but the Andersons continue the tournament to honor his memory and to raise money for the cause that meant so much to him.

This tournament is open to golfers from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and beyond.  This year’s event will feature a Nine & Dine beginning at 3:00 p.m.  Come play nine holes of golf followed by a delicious meal, fun auctions, music, and dancing into the night!  Non-golfers welcome too!

The Sleep Health Center

Lebanon, NH – The Sleep Health Center, a department of Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, recently upgraded their facilities and added a new sleep bed to increase capacity for overnight sleep studies. “This will help us get patients evaluated more quickly,” said Lisa Stebbins, CRT, RPSGT, Cardiopulmonary Manager, “and improve our diagnosis and treatment strategies.”

In December 2009, the Sleep Health Center at APD moved sleep studies from the main hospital building to its facilities in the Medical Office Building on the APD campus. The move increased patient privacy and convenience. The recent upgrade is part of an overall plan for continued quality improvement, with a goal of one month from an initial consultation to treatment.

The Sleep Health Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, including insomnia, sleep apnea, and restless leg syndrome.

Urology Practice Celebrates Fifty-Year Anniversary

CONCORD, NH – Started in 1960 by Dr. Thomas Ferraro and joined by Dr. Dennis Card in 1973, Concord Urology (NKA Concord Hospital Center for Urologic Care) became one of the first medical practices in Concord to provide urologic care to the community. Today, the Center for Urologic Care remains committed to Dr. Ferraro’s vision and continues to provide urologic care and specialized treatment to patients throughout central New Hampshire.

In 2007, Concord Urology was renamed Concord Hospital Center for Urologic Care and recognized as one of the hospital’s cornerstone Centers of Excellence. The new name recognized the practice’s ability to meet a full range of urologic medical needs allowing patients access to a multidisciplinary team of experts that includes skilled urologists and surgeons specifically trained in the treatment of disorders and disease of the kidneys, bladder and prostate. As a fully-integrated urologic center, with specialized programs in Prostate and Urologic Cancer, Kidney Stone Treatment and Prevention, and Pelvic Medicine, Sexual Health and Continence, the practice continues to provide individualized patient care using state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment technologies.

“This anniversary marks an amazing transition from a solo urologic practice to a multi-provider, subspecialty oriented group practice engaged in training the next generation of urologists,” said Dr. David Green, Concord Hospital chief medical officer. “We are indebted to Drs. Ferraro and Card for establishing the core values for patient care that continue to guide the practice today. We also acknowledge and celebrate the many contributions of a long line of dedicated and talented nurses, medical assistants and front office staff.”

The Center has announced several enhancements over the past few years, including the addition of the da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgical System; Storz SLX-F2 Lithotripter (used in the treatment of kidney and ureteral stones); Holmium Laser Ablation (used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia); and the addition of a female urologist dedicated to addressing the special needs of women with urologic conditions, including incontinence, pelvic floor disorders, female sexual dysfunction, bladder and pelvic pain, and urinary tract infections.
