NEONATOLOGIST WELCOMED
Providence, RI – Martin Keszler, MD, of Cranston, has recently joined the staff in the Department of Pediatrics at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island as director of Newborn Respiratory Services and co-principal investigator of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Neonatal Research Network Grant.
Dr. Keszler comes to Women & Infants from Georgetown University, where he was a professor of Pediatrics, director of Nurseries/Inborn Neonatal Services, director of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Program, and chair of the Institutional Review Board at Georgetown University Medical Center.
He received a bachelor’s degree and medical degree from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and completed his pediatric and neonatal training at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Akron, OH. Dr. Keszler is widely published and has received many awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Keszler has a national and international reputation for his expertise in neonatal mechanical ventilation. He has led landmark clinical trials on both conventional and high frequency ventilation, for which he garners numerous speaking and consultative engagements around the world.
UROGYNECOLOGY SPECIALIST WELCOMED
Providence, RI – Kyle J. Wohlrab, MD, has joined the staff in the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. He is seeing patients at the hospital’s Center for Women’s Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery in Providence.
Dr. Wohlrab received a bachelor’s degree from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA, and earned his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Health Sciences, Chicago Medical School. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellowship in urogynecology at Women & Infants Hospital/The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Wohlrab is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Urogynecologic Society, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
Dr. Wohlrab’s research and clinical interests include surgical outcomes following robotic and laparoscopic prolapse surgery.
Neurosurgeon Joins The Spine Center as Medical Director
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI – Stephen Saris, M.D. has joined The Spine Center at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island as medical director, effective Sept. 1, 2010.
Dr. Saris joined the Landmark Medical Staff in 1999. A graduate of Boston University School of Medicine, he completed an internship in general surgery at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, a residency in neurosurgery at Duke Medical Center in North Carolina, a fellowship in neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and a fellowship in brain tumors at the National Institutes of Health. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons.
The Spine Center is committed to providing a comprehensive, multidisciplinary and individualized approach to the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of spine disorders and injuries. In addition to Dr. Saris’ specialty in neurosurgery, the team of clinicians includes a pain management specialist, physiatrist, chiropractor, psychiatrist, psychologist, acupuncturist, nurse practitioner, physical therapist, and nurse coordinator. The overriding goal is to minimize the use of surgery and narcotics, while promoting coping skills and an early return to the workforce.

WOMEN & INFANTS WELCOMES PSYCHIATRIST
Providence, RI. – Catherine R. Friedman, MD, has recently joined the staff in the Division of Women’s Behavioral Health, Department of Medicine, at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island. She is seeing patients at the Center for Women’s Behavioral Health in Providence.
Dr. Friedman received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, did graduate work at The Rockefeller University in New York, and earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She completed an internship in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at the University of California San Francisco, and a residency in general adult psychiatry at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinics, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she also completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. She is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Society for Addiction Medicine, the American Association of Community Psychiatrists, and the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Friedman will provide care at Women & Infants’ Day Hospital, where she will provide treatment to pregnant and postpartum women suffering from depression, anxiety and other psychiatric disorders. She will also provide assessment and medication treatment at Project Link and the Center for Women’s Behavioral Health outpatient program.
Her research and clinical interests include perinatal psychiatry, women with addiction, addiction in pregnancy, and attachment issues.
