Cambridge Health Alliance Emergency Site Chief Named President of the Mass. College of Emergency Physicians

Cambridge, MA – The Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians (MACEP) recently elected Luis Lobon, MD, Site Chief of Emergency Medicine at Cambridge Health Alliance’s Cambridge Hospital campus, as its President for the 2010-2011 period. 

Dr. Lobon joined Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) in 2007 and has played a critical role in significant enhancements made in the emergency department at CHA’s Cambridge Hospital campus. New rapid assessment protocols, the implementation of an electronic patient tracking system, and the addition of patient partners have resulted in enhanced efficiency, quality, and patient flow. The emergency department’s length of stay has decreased 15 percent while patient satisfaction has jumped more than 30 percent. 

Board-certified in emergency medicine and a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Lobon has conducted extensive research in the field. In 2004, Dr. Lob—n received the Metropolitan Boston EMS Council President’s Award in recognition of his outstanding dedication and significant contributions to the improvement of emergency medical services within the region. In 2008, he received the Council’s Physician of the Year Award. 

In his new role, Dr. Lobon will guide MACEP, whose membership numbers over 750 emergency physicians, as it advances excellence in emergency care while advocating for physicians, their patients, and the health of the community. He has served on MACEP’s Board of Directors since 2007 as Education Committee chair and was later elected to the Executive Board. 

Dr. Lobon received his medical degree from the University of Cantabria Faculty of Medicine (Spain) and performed his internship and residencies in emergency medicine in New York City at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Beth Israel Medical Center, and Elmhurst Hospital Center. He received a master’s degree in health management and finance from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. He is an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Fellowship-Trained Rheumatologist Joins Medical Staff

Winchester, MA. – Winchester Hospital has welcomed a fellowship-trained rheumatologist to its medical staff. A resident of Boston, Janice Gupta, DO is practicing at Rheumatology & Internal Medicine Associates, P.C. in Wilmington.
 
Dr. Gupta received her medical degree from Midwestern University in Chicago, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago in Chicago. She completed a clinical fellowship in rheumatology at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, and an internal medicine residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology.

Sarah Call, who most recently practiced in Virginia, received her degree in medicine from Loyola University in Chicago. She completed her internship and residency at Riverside Family Practice in Newport News, Virginia. She will be working alongside Drs. Thomas Clay, Paul Foster and Nurse Practitioner Kimberly Vetal.

Ali H. Goli, M.D.

Dr. Goli, a Massachusetts resident, received his degree in medicine from the University of Ankara in Turkey. He completed his residency in family practice from Florida Hospital in Orlando, Fla. He most recently attended a family practice clinic in Wrentham, Mass. He also has work experience in Orthopedic Surgery, Anesthesiology and Pain Management. Dr. Goli will work alongside Doctors Marsha Lavoie, Rose Tharakan and Cynthia Wilson-Grillo.

Charles Mills, an Internal Medicine Physician with a sub-specialty in Rheumatology, received his degree in medicine from Loma Linda University in California. He completed both his residency in Internal Medicine and his residency in Rheumatology at the University of South Florida. He most recently attended a rheumatology practice at Largo Diagnostic Clinics in Florida. He will be working alongside Dr. Jeff Cohen, Dr. Afshin Nasseri and Nurse Practitioner Heather Briere.

Evan Provisor, a Massachusetts resident, received his degree in medicine from Albany Medical College of Union University in New York. He completed his residency at Brown University in Providence, R.I. Dr. Provisor most recently practiced general surgery at Northern Berkshire Healthcare System in North Adams. He will work alongside Doctors Harry Easterly, Eric Koch and John Lohlun.


 

Merrimack Valley Hospital Announces New Bilingual General Surgeon

Haverhill, MA. – Merrimack Valley Hospital is pleased to announce the arrival of Edwin Menor, MD, general surgeon. Dr. Menor, originally from South America, is bilingual in Spanish and English. He was medically and surgically trained in the United States.

Dr. Menor performs all general surgery procedures, and has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures. Minimally invasive procedures are done with smaller incisions, which generally means less pain and faster recovery times for patients.

“Dr. Edwin S. Menor will be a welcome addition to our medical staff, and he will be located in the medical office building on the hospital campus,” said Merrimack Valley Hospital CEO Michael Collins.

Dr. Menor’s focus is on patient education. He spends time informing patients about their conditions, explains surgical choices, and enlists their participation in pre- and post-surgical options for rapid recovery. 

“I love my patients and treat them with respect and dignity.  As a surgeon, my job is to prolong and improve their quality of life.  Surgical care should be available worldwide to everyone in need,” said Dr. Menor.

A compassionate surgeon, Dr. Menor goes on mission trips to do pro bono surgeries for indigent patients both in the United States and third-world countries.  His most recent surgical mission trip was to his home country of Peru.

Dr. Menor earned his medical degree from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska.  He completed his internship and surgical residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York in 2003, and then trained with one of the pioneers of advanced laparoscopic surgery, James “Butch” Rosser, Jr., M.D. from Yale University, at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.

Dr. Menor is a member of the Society of American Endoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgeons, the National Hispanic Mentor Recruitment Network, and the Peruvian-American Medical Society.

Dr. Menor began his practice at Merrimack Valley Surgical Specialties on Aug. 1, 2010.


Northeast Homecare Appoints New RN Case Manager

Beverly, MA. – Northeast HomeCare, Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals’ Medicare-certified home care agency and a member of the Northeast Senior Health continuum of services, announces the appointment of Marsha D. Cooper, RN, BSN, to the position of Registered Nurse (RN) Case Manager. In her new role, she will evaluate patients’ home care needs and perform skilled nursing visits.

A resident of Boxford, Cooper has over 20 years of nursing experience. Her most recent role was as an RN Case Manager for Partners Home Care.

Cooper holds her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree from Northeastern University. She recently completed an RN Refresher Certificate Program at Boston College. A member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Cooper has also been published in a peer-reviewed nursing journal.

Cooper is a Board of Directors member for D.A.S.H. (Disability Awareness Starts Here), a school-based volunteer organization serving the communities of Boxford, Topsfield and Middleton.

Primary Care Physician Fellowship-Trained in Infectious Diseases, Joins Medical Staff

Winchester, MA. – Winchester Hospital has welcomed a primary care physician who is fellowship-trained in infectious diseases to its medical staff. A resident of Winchester, Andrew Lubin, MD is practicing alongside Jonathan Adler, MD at Winchester Primary Care Associates in Winchester.
 
Dr. Lubin received his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y. He received his Master of Science in Clinical Research from the Tufts University Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences in Boston, and his Bachelor of Science from Binghamton University in Vestal, N.Y.
 
Dr. Lubin completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, N.Y., where he also completed a year as chief medical resident. He received his fellowship training in infectious diseases at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
 
Dr. Lubin was the recipient of the 2009 Edward H. Kass Award for Clinical Excellence from the Massachusetts Infectious Diseases Society. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Society for Microbiology and the Massachusetts Infectious Diseases Society.
