Anthem BC and BS in NH Appoints Senior Legal Counsel

Manchester, NH – Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire has named Maria M. Proulx as senior legal counsel.

Ms. Proulx, who has been with Anthem for three years, previously served as the director of regulatory compliance for Anthem’s plans in New Hampshire and Maine.

 ”Maria has been a very capable leader in our company,” said Douglas J. Wenners, president and general manger, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire.  “She is an excellent addition to our local management team.”

 Prior to joining Anthem, Ms. Proulx practiced law at Orr & Reno, PA in Concord, focusing on civil and commercial litigation and business law. She holds a law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law in Hamden, CT and a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire in Durham.  She is a graduate of the Concord Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and serves on the board of directors for CASA and the Merrimack County Bar Association.  Ms. Proulx is a New Hampshire native and graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover.

In her new role at Anthem, she will be responsible for representing the business in all legal aspects while providing strategy and guidance to internal business partners.


Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital

LEBANON, NH-Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H., welcomed Rick H. Senn of Fairlee Vt., as Practice Manager of General Surgery at APD.

Senn was most recently a Practice Management Consultant and multi-site Office Manager at St. John’s Mercy Medical Group in St. Louis, where he provided operational support for nine physician practices, set up new practices, and helped implement the organization’s transition to electronic health records. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Service Management from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Alice Peck Day General Surgery (formerly know as the Kroner Clinic), a department of Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital, provides a variety of general surgical services and has served the community since 1985.


Dartmouth-Hitchcock Manchester Welcomes Hannah K. Galvin, MD to the Special Care Nursery at Catholic Medical Center

Manchester, NH- Dartmouth-Hitchcock Manchester welcomed their newest provider, Hannah K. Galvin, MD to the Special Care Nursery at Catholic Medical Center. Dr. Galvin is board-certified in pediatrics. Dr. Galvin’s clinical interests include child advocacy and the integration of information technology with clinical practice. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.  She completed her pediatric internship through the Northwestern/McGaw Residency Program at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.  She completed her pediatric residency through the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Boston and Boston Medical Center in Boston, MA.

The Mom’s Place at Catholic Medical Center recently opened a  Special Care Nursery designed specifically for infants who are born as early as 32 weeks and need a little extra time to grow. The program is designed to minimize separation between parents and baby, encourage bonding and attachment, and give parents greater confidence in assuming their role as primary care givers when it’s time to go home.

Manchester, NH – Dartmouth-Hitchcock welcomed Jill H. Hunter, APRN to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Bedford Internal in Bedford. Ms. Hunter’s clinical interests include women’s health and management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

Ms. Hunter is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who independently performs physical exams, diagnoses and treats illnesses, orders and interprets tests, and provides health and wellness education.  She completed her graduate studies at Simmons College in Boston, MA.


Long-time Concord Hospital surgeon retires

CONCORD – Long-time Concord Hospital surgeon, Dr. Nick Perencevich, is retiring from his clinical practice, but will continue to be an influence at Concord Hospital, focusing his talents on teaching medical students.

Dr. Perencevich, a general surgeon, has seen patients and taught at Concord Hospital for 22 years. Prior to coming to Concord, he was an Air Force surgeon for two years, followed by eight years of private practice in Andover, Massachusetts. His surgical training was at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (now Brigham and Womens Hospital) in Boston. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College, attended Dartmouth Medical School and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1972.

Dr. Perencevich’s patients will continue to receive care from his Concord Surgical Associates partners, and all patient records will remain at their office. Dr. Perencevich plans to continue living in the Concord community and will be involved in teaching surgery to third-year Dartmouth Medical students in their surgical training rotations at Concord Hospital.

“Nick has been a valued member of the Concord Hospital staff for more than two decades,” said Dr. Stephen Imgrund, Concord Hospital medical staff president. “Concord Hospital and Dartmouth Medical School are very fortunate he will continue to share his wealth of experience with the next generation of general surgeons.”


The New England Society for Healthcare Communications Awards (NESHCo) Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient to Thomas Link of New Hampshire

ROWLEY, MA – The New England Society for Healthcare Communications (NESHCo) announced that Thomas Link of Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth Hitchcock Keene, a 30 -year veteran of healthcare marketing and communications, was awarded the prestigious Evans Houghton Memorial Award at the association’s annual conference held May 25 in Stowe, Vt.

The Evans Houghton Award was established by NESHCo’s Board of Directors to honor the memory of Evans F. Houghton, one of the Society’s founders who died an untimely death in 1974. The award honors an individual for exemplary performance and significant contributions in the field of health care public relations; selfless dedication to other practitioners without any thought of personal gain and boldly challenging themselves and their peers to excel, with the highest standards of conduct and professionalism.

“What puts Tom Link above many in the profession is his ability to accomplish public relations and marketing efforts that bring about significant cultural change in the community, region and state, to improve the quality and health of individuals, families and children,” said Jim Rattray, Vice President of Marketing & Public Affairs at Southcoast Health System in New Bedford, Mass., NESHCo board member, 2003 Evans Houghton winner and chair of this year’s committee. “He is a cutting-edge practitioner who was one of the first to have a full website for his hospital and who’s work results in changing people’s perceptions of healthcare or embracing their own pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.”

Link’s experience in healthcare runs includes his position as hospital administrator, to community leader and activist, to board member in a variety of professional associations and finally to leading medical mission trips to Haiti, where he utilizes his clinical experience as a physician’s assistant. 

For more than 30 years, Link has invoked his vision to make communities healthier. His present position at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene has combined his fundraising and healthcare knowledge to address the needs of the people who live in and around Keene and his passion to make Keene, N.H., the healthiest community in America in by the year 2020 has been impressive. His role at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene has proven a model for other Dartmouth-Hitchcock initiatives and allowed Link to be visible and active with the New Hampshire Hospital Association’s Communications and Marketing group.

Link has had a large impact as a community volunteer, particularly in the area of childcare. He is considered a the “founding father” of Child First, a childcare advocacy organization in New Hampshire’s Mondadnock Region. and continues his efforts there today.  He is a Past President of the Keene Family YMCA and served on that board for 10 years. He currently chairs and and has been an active Board Member of the Keene Partner City Committee since 1998. Link also He is presently is Chair of on the Keene Mayor’s Municipal Broadband Committee and Chair of the Council for a Healthier Community. He is Link is Past Chair of Keene’s Community Health Education Cooperative and is a former Co-Chair of the Mayor’s Task Force on Childcare. His work with Child First Early Learning New Hampshire earned Link the prestigious “Dorothy Cleveland Award,” which recognizes exemplary practices in high-quality childcare.  He also served on the board of Early Learning NH for eight years and was the recipient of the Early Learning Champion Award in 2007.
