AHEC Supporting New Hampshire

Published Tuesday Jul 13, 2004

During its eight years of existence, the New Hampshire Area Health Education Center (AHEC) has done a tremendous amount of work in the Granite State. Before the AHEC was established in 1997, only 12 percent of New Hampshire medical students were completing rotations in rural and undeserved areas. By 2002, thanks to the efforts of the AHEC, that number had increased to 36 percent.
In 2004 alone, the AHEC made 60
visits to schools and health fairs, and talked with 4,500 students and 1,400 teachers, counselors and parents. Last year, the organization also provided 244 continuing
education programs to 5,500 health care providers from 600 community-based sites in the Granite State.
